I bought this "3 ft. Advanced High Speed Ethernet Cable" for a faster internet connection. Before making this purchase, I researched the effectiveness of various Ethernet cables such as the CAT6. I'll summarize my findings to help those tentative about this product.

This Monster product is a CAT6 that has higher transmission rates than both a standard CAT5 (Cisco-Linksys UTP510 Network Cable, Cat 5, 10 Feet) and an enhanced CAT5e (RiteAV - Cat5e Network Ethernet Cable - Blue - 3 ft.). (Please note: The hyperlinks are references.) The CAT5 cables we use every day have transmission rates of 100 Mbps. I asked myself if I needed anything "better" than a CAT5, and the answer was no. Most households don't own a 100 Mbps connection. I have a 24 Mbps service (3,000 Kbps down), which pales in comparison to the speeds of a 100 Mbps plan (12,500 kbps down). But, even if I had a 100 Mbps plan, I would need only a CAT5.

The CAT5e is an improved version with 3.5 times the speed of a CAT5 cable (350 Mbps). Bradley Mitchell's article differentiates between a CAT5 and CAT5e: "A newer specification for CAT5 cable - CAT5 enhanced ('CAT5e' or 'CAT 5e') - supports networking at Gigabit Ethernet speeds (1000 Mbps) over short distances by utilizing all four wire pairs, and it is backward-compatible with ordinary CAT5." Therefore, CAT5 cables suffice. Consumers--for now--will never reach or exceed the maximum transmission threshold of a standard CAT5.

Case and point: What does this information mean? Well, depending on a household's internet plan, a CAT5 cable is adequate; it does the job without any ifs, ands, or buts. In addition, it's affordable. Cables such as the CAT5e and CAT6 are unnecessary because they exceed the CAT5's capabilities, especially for networks that operate at less than 100 Mbps. My previous CAT5 cable suits the "limitations" of my internet plan; however, I contradict myself by still using a Monster Cable.

Conclusion: The cheaper, generic cables work. I didn't notice a dramatic improvement with my internet connection. It's a quality product, though. In the meantime, I'll continue to use it. I might try computer-to-computer file transfers. That'd be one advantage.

I bought two of these cables because I have an iPad and an iPhone and the cables that come with them are very short. After about a week of use, the first one stopped working. I was happy that I had the second one, but a few days ago (about 4 months after the purchase) the second one stopped working as well. I had bought a used Sony Cybershot HX20V that didn't come with a USB data cable. I'm not sure whether this is correct or not with the original cable, but the end that connects the cable to the camera doesn't fit all the way in. Though it doesn't seems to be problem with my PC not recognizing it. Other than shortening the length of the cable... I don't think 6 feet is necessary, Still, it's a keeper at this price.

I needed this adapter cable to connect my Android phone to a camera for some very ad-hoc purposes. It seems that such purposes are far from common, and these male micro-USB to female USB connectors are very hard to find. I ordered a similar one on Amazon, but since it was shipped from China it was taking it weeks to reach me. I finally gave up and decided to check out the local electronics superstore. I was able to find exactly one of these there. The price was also pretty good, much cheaper than the one on Amazon.

So far this cable adapter has been adequate for my needs. It fits snugly both within the Android phone and at the USB end. I've used it a couple of times and haven't had any problems with it. Targus ACC96US High-Speed File Transfer Cable (Gray) Review

I picked this out for a replacement of a much older device that was similar to this one and I'm quite pleased with it!

It has all the software contained within the device so no need to have a driver disk installed into each computer, just plug it in and Win XP will take care of the setup for you. It's so simple it's ridiculous.

Pros:
Plug and play: plug it in and let it do it's thing!
Simple software that anyone with a 1/10 of a brain can figure out
has a nice long cable between the connections
comes with a carry pouch
comes with a velcro strap to keep the cable tidy

Cons:
The head of the main head on this unit of the device is kind of large so you may need to unplug other USB devices to fit this into the USB port. For some computers you may need to plug it into the back of the computer due to the size fact that some USB ports are set into the devices too far and this will be hard to get into there.

The price isn't bad but could always be better, I rather like this though and it will go in my laptop bag for when I need to get at large files or give large files when I'm out and about. No need to transfer to a disk, USB flash drive, or hook into the other persons network anymore. just plug into their USB port and be done with it.

IDK who added the prior comments about speed to my review (one of my family members probably, but yeah... that was false info) Data transfer is limited by the fact that this is a USB 2.0 device and you'll be lucky to get 40mbps, I hope they redo this device for 3.0 as I rather like the interface and the ease of use. I've been using it on a lot of systems to just make life easier when transferring but as the transfer rate of info across USB can be kind of slow so when doing large transfers you may want to invest in a case that has firewire connections or eSATA. It will make life a lot easier.
