A good adapter is always hard to come by that will work for a VM. This was my third attempt after smoking an older one I had for years. For a controls programmer - I have found that the original 'Prolific Chipset' 'PL2303' works while the faster 'Prolific Chipset' of 'PL2303HX' will not. Tried this adapter on three different systems using different 'host' OS's, one Ubuntu, one Windows XP 32 bit, one Windows 7 64 bit - this one worked on all three, where the PL2303HX' chipset did not work on any VM within these machines. Not saying it will work for you - I just had better results using the slower chipset.
