I am an Apple Certified Mac Technician working in a school district with over 1000 laptops, so I'm fairly well qualified to evaluate this product. It's build quality is fairly good but nothing special, I can find nothing externally wrong with the construction. The Mini-DVI connector goes in very very tight and upon visual comparison with an Apple Mini-DVI to VGA adapter the "C" shaped internal pin board is visibly larger on this knock-off adapter. The barrel is also much longer than on the Apple adapter, but I don't think that is causing any problem. Upon insertion the adapter does cause the laptop to change its resolution, so it is at least seeing some connection, but the display does not see a signal. I have tested this behavior on 3 different laptops on two different monitors with an extra new VGA cable to be sure. I cannot say for sure whether the tight connector is misaligning the pins (which is my suspicion) or whether some internal connection within the adapter is simply disconnected for some reason, but mine does not work, this sentiment has been expressed by many other purchasers, and I would not recommend buying this.
